Experimenting with Blockprinting and Fabric Painting

An afternoon experimenting with hand-painting and relief printing on 100% cotton fabric!

1. Red brushstrokes made with Jacquard Textile Color (True Red) mixed with 20% water. After painting and letting it dry, the paint was heat set using an iron (cotton fabric setting, no steam, 3 minutes).

2. Yellow brushstrokes made with Golden Acrylic (Hansa Yellow Light) mixed 1:1 with Golden GAC 900 Fabric Painting Medium. After painting and letting it dry, the paint was heat set using an iron (cotton fabric setting, no steam, 3 minutes).

3. Butterfly stamp made using Speedball Speedy Carve and printed using Speedball's Fabric Block Printing Ink. The fabric was left to dry and will be washed in seven days following Speedball's recommendations. Heat setting was not required.

This was a lot of fun to do. I'm not thrilled with the colours but this is what I had on-hand. Next up, I want to try Dye Na Flow textile paints from Jacquard and some different coloured fabric block printing inks from Speedball. Can't wait!
